Citizen’s Committee on Community Development

MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITIZENS COMMITTEE ON COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
HELD ON May 15, 2000

The members of the Citizen's Committee on Community Development met in a special meeting at 25 Van Ness Avenue, 3rd Floor Conference Room at 5:40 p.m. on May 15, 2000 the place and date duly established for holding such a meeting.

Jerry Levine called the meeting to order at 5:40 p.m. On roll call, the following were present:
Yuhum Digdigan, Jerry Levine, Rene Cazenave, Alonzo Douglas,
Vincent Chao, Linda Cheu, Craig Dziedzic, Tom Ruiz,
Dan Sullivan, Philip Ting


The following were absent: None

The following were excused absent:
Deborah Montesinos, George Welch, Ray Moisa

MOCD Staff: Gene Coleman, Deputy Director, Anna Yee, Jon Pon, Al Lerma, Roger Sanders and Shalonda Baldwin

Approval of Minutes

The minutes were approved for meetings held the month of March and April 2000.




Director's Report:

Gene Coleman, Deputy Director reported that the CDBG anniversary event held by MOCD was a success. Gene also reported the death of Lefty Gordy, the Director of Ella Hill Hutch and of Earl White the President of the Black Chambers of Commerce. He also updated the committee on the current status of MOCD's program. MOCD is currently working with agencies in developing work plans and compliance issues to ADA legislation and regulations. Gene also reported on the status of the McKinney Funding.

New Business

·          Daryl Higashi, Deputy Director for the Mayor's Office of Housing updated the CCCD on SF Committee  2000 and the three areas the Mayor has identified as sites for increasing housing. The targeted sites will be Balboa, Upper Market and the Waterfront Area. Daryl reported that condo conversions and low-income renter housing are major focus points up for discussion. He also informed the CCCD on the status of the Housing Conservation Development Corporation (HCDC) site at 5199 Mission. The Bernal Heights community has increased participation and support of the site and its' focus of providing affordable housing for low-income seniors. Daryl also reported on the Visitacion Valley celebration that took place in the beginning of May and announced that the community requested another celebration. He also reported that a public disclosure request has been made for Mission Housing's proposal to develop 1950 Mission Street, which is owned by the San Francisco School District.

·          Tom Ruiz raised the issue of teacher housing. Daryl stated that Mission Housing has agreed to set aside a percent for teacher housing while the
for-profit contender for the site also confirmed that teacher housing will be made available.

The Vice-Chair asked for a motion to adjourn. This motion was seconded and unanimously carried. The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p. m.
